Tragic Bengaluru Techie Suicide: FIR Registered Against Wife and In-Laws as Calls for Justice Grow

The tragic suicide of 34-year-old Bengaluru-based engineer, Atul Subhash, has sparked an emotional storm across social media, with many demanding justice for his untimely death. Atul’s passing on Monday has prompted the Bengaluru police to take swift action, initiating a probe after uncovering a 24-page handwritten note and a 90-minute video in which he described alleged mistreatment by his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her relatives.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Atul’s lifeless body was discovered in his Bengaluru apartment. In his farewell messages, shared with an NGO WhatsApp group and sent to several individuals via email, he spoke of relentless emotional and legal struggles.

Accusations of Harassment
The Marathahalli police have lodged a case of abetment to suicide, naming Nikita Singhania, along with her mother Nisha, brother Anurag, and uncle Sushil, as accused in the FIR. The charges, filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), include abetment to suicide and criminal acts involving common intent. Authorities are expected to summon the accused for questioning.

A Life Entangled in Legal Battles
Atul’s suicide note painted a grim picture of his life, burdened by ongoing legal battles with his estranged wife. He revealed that Nikita had filed nine cases against him—six in lower courts and three in the high court—alleging serious charges like murder, dowry harassment, and unnatural sex. One case filed in 2022 even included his parents and brother. However, during cross-examination, Nikita reportedly admitted that her father’s death in 2019 was due to long-term illnesses, including diabetes, and not linked to Atul’s alleged demands for money.

The note also accused Nikita and her family of demanding ₹3 crore to settle disputes and an additional ₹30 lakh to allow Atul visitation rights with their son.

A Cry for Help
In a heartfelt video recorded shortly before his death, Atul opened up about the immense burden these conflicts had placed on him, saying, “My wife has lodged nine cases against me. They have destroyed my life.
He spoke of feeling trapped, unable to find peace amidst the continuous legal and personal battles. His final words were a call for accountability and justice, sparking widespread discussion about the emotional strain of marital conflicts and false allegations.

The Way Forward
Atul’s death has highlighted the need for greater awareness of mental health, support for those facing legal harassment, and timely interventions in domestic disputes. As the investigation unfolds, the public’s demand for truth and justice grows louder, ensuring his voice will not be silenced.
